The Wood
Where every piece begins
Timber Types

A premium hardwood known for its deep colour and refined grain. Walnut brings richness and sophistication to any space.
Burr Oak
Highly figured and full of natural detail, burr oak creates dramatic, one-of-a-kind surfaces that feel truly unique.
Burr Elm
Expressive and detailed, burr elm offers incredible visual depth and is ideal for statement pieces.
Yew
Distinctive in colour and character, yew provides a more unusual and striking option for bespoke work.
Mappa Burl
Known for its intricate figuring and decorative appearance, mappa burl is often used in highly expressive, collectible pieces.
Working with resin
In some pieces, resin is used to complement the natural form of the wood — highlighting edges, filling voids, or creating contrast.
Each pour is unique. Colour and pattern can be guided, but never exactly replicated, ensuring every piece remains one of a kind.
Natural variation is the point
Wood is a natural material, and with that comes movement, variation, and character. Small cracks, grain variation, and tonal differences are not flaws — they are what make each piece unique. We can refine and stabilise these features, but we never remove the character that gives the material its identity.
The material defines the piece
At Stocks Workshop, every piece begins with the timber itself. We select wood for its grain, character, movement, and individuality — because the material is never just a starting point, it is central to the finished piece. No two boards are ever the same, and that is exactly what gives each piece its identity.
Chosen, not standardised
We do not treat wood as a uniform material. Each board is selected by hand, with attention to its natural figure, tone, and structure. Some pieces are clean and understated, others are highly expressive — both have their place depending on the design. By working this way, every finished piece carries something unique.
